Thanks so much for the great information. I am impressed with how you blend the science with your experience.
I was just wondering if the same thing applies to 11 and 12 year olds. My main concern is long toss at this age. If you are fine with long toss on the younger kids, could you please tell us a basic progression to work into it.
I did want to add one thing to your already excellent discussion of partitioning.
If there is an intensive workout then the body releases growth hormone. Growth hormone + Insulin= IGF1. IGF1 is more potent than any other anabolic hormone.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks Stanley!

Regarding long toss for 11 and 12 year olds. I am all for long toss as a 11 and 12 year old player. But he needs to have a complete full body warm up routine and strong/mobile posterior cuff.

I could tell you a progression I used but it wouldn’t be helpful for a 12 year old. I would have him go off feel. 4 to 5 throw at a distance then take 5 steps back. For example:

    5 throws from 10 feet
    5 – 8 throws from 60 feet
    5 – 8 throws from 90 feet
    5 – 8 throws from 120 feet
2 throws from 120+ feet then step back
2 throws from 120+ feet then step back
    until you start to tire.

You will have to adjust the footage based on your sons ability.

    Thanks for the comment!
