A quick story…

When I was in college, I trained my butt off. I would come early to the gym, and leave late. I came from a old school of thought, “work harder and longer, and you will be better.”

This motto lead to a small scholarship to a Div 1 school to play baseball. But at an elite level, everyone is working hard. Coaches push you to your absolute limit. Forcing you to use every bit of energy. Testing your mentally, asking you to find effort where you feel there is none left….

Great coaches do an amazing job to motivate you, and to test you. If you have a limit, they will find it. 

The is a competition between athletes. Eveyone is measured tested. From your sprint times, squat max to fastball velocity. Everything is measured. The guys that recover and stimulate muscle growth the fastest, win.

“Genetic potential” is a phrase thrown around a lot in baseball world. It is the idea, that at some point in your career, you “peak.” When you “peak” you are done developing and will not get and stronger.

This statement has some truth, but be careful. Genes play an important role in your future growth as an athlete. But genes are not meant to be an excuse for your lack of glycogen storage or glucose availability or your insulin levels in your bloodstream during training. Do not let someone tell you, “You have reached your peak potential.” There is to many factors for an outsiders to know when you really hit your peak.
